Description
Typically WS2812B and siblings of that LED driver IC do have only 8-bit brightness steps. Which in most circumstances may be sufficient. However, when it comes to more advanced show lighting on stages or rooms where low light performance is required, it is desired to have more quantization steps to correctly display colors and do gamma correction.
There is a nice overview of the topic here (it is a bit biased towards the products of that company but nevertheless useful information):

As I understood moonlight is aimed at more advanced lighting, and I think 16-bit grayscale resolution on each color channel would be a great feature to improve (slow) brightness fading quality, low light effect quality. This feature would make moonlight very much more distinct from WLED.
